- Choose Your Growing Method
King oyster mushrooms grow well in hardwood sawdust blocks, straw pellets, or mushroom grow kits. For beginners,
a ready-to-grow kit is the easiest option. - Prepare the Substrate
Use hardwood sawdust or fuel pellets and add wheat bran or soybean hulls for nutrition. Pasteurize or sterilize the mix
to reduce contamination. Moisture should feel like a wrung-out sponge. - Add Mushroom Spawn
Mix king oyster mushroom spawn evenly into the cooled substrate. Place the mixture into grow bags or containers
with air holes. Keep clean during this step to avoid mold. - Incubate in a Warm Dark Area
Store bags at 65–75°F in dark or low light with moderate humidity. White mycelium will spread through the substrate
in about 2–3 weeks. - Trigger Fruiting
Move the fully colonized substrate to cooler temperatures (55–65°F), increase fresh air, provide indirect light, and
maintain high humidity (85–95%). Small pins will form and grow into thick king oyster mushrooms.
Harvest Tip: Harvest when caps are still slightly curled downward for the best texture and flavor
